Rentals of member properties have become more prevalent in recent years, in part due to the proliferation of rental platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO. On account of these technologies, there will be an increase in rentals to people who are unknown to the renter and to the wider CYC community. This presents some new problems, most significantly the Club’s liability and the Club’s culture. The CYC’s comprehensive liability insurance does not cover non-member renters. To protect the interests of the CYC membership, non-member renters and un-hosted non-member guests may not use the private shore facilities—docks and parking. This class of renter may use other means of access to the river, including the public boat launch and parking lot, or one of the private businesses nearby. The intent of this policy is to protect the Club from liability of non-member usage. It is not meant to prevent or discourage members from entertaining their island guests.
